Finding Balance: Creating Space for Solitude

“In solitude we give passionate attention to our lives, to our memories, to the details around us.”

As busy moms, we work hard to keep our daily routine running smoothly and efficiently. We sew, schedules for the children and make plans for dinner, but so often in our pursuit of daily productivity, we neglect to set aside time for ourselves.

In the constant stream of activity and noise filling our days, it is hard to slow down and savor a quiet moment. I know I struggle with this! Slowing down seems counterproductive and frivolous.

It is easy to look for fulfillment in daily accomplishments, but miss the experience of simply being rather than doing. I think the quality of life actually improves when we devote ourselves fully to both the hard work of the day and the quiet moments of solitude. It is in that balance that we find beauty and contentment in living. And I am not asking for more.

Just give yourself permission to live life at a your own peace. Don’t let any one else decide how much you need to fit into a day.
