Silverware and Dinnerware Rule

Here's the Silverware and dinnerware rule:

Eat to your left, drink to your right. Any food dish to the left is yours, and any glass to the right is yours.

Starting with the knife, fork, or spoon that is farthest from your plate, work your way in, using one utensil for each course. The salad fork is on your outermost left, followed by your dinner fork. Your soup spoon is on your outermost right, followed by your beverage spoon, salad knife and dinner knife. Your dessert spoon and fork are above your plate or brought out with dessert. If you remember the rule to work from the outside in, you'll be fine.

Use one of two methods when using the fork and knife:

American Style: Knife in right hand, fork in left hand holding food. After a few bite-sized pieces of food are cut, place knife on edge of plate with blades facing in. Eat food by switching fork to right hand (unless you are left handed). A left hand, arm or elbow on the table is bad manners.

Continental/European Style: Knife in right hand, fork in left hand. Eat food with fork still in left hand. The difference is that you don't switch hands-you eat with your fork in your left hand, with the prongs curving downward. Both utensils are kept in your hands with the tines pointed down throughout the entire eating process. If you take a drink, you do not just put your knife down, you put both utensils down into the resting position: cross the fork over the knife.

Once used, your utensils, including the handles, must not touch the table again. Always rest forks, knives, and spoons on the side of your plate or in the bowl.

For more formal dinners, from course to course, your tableware will be taken away and replaced as needed.

To signal that your are done with the course, rest your fork, tines up, and knife blade in, with the handles resting at five o'clock an tips pointing to ten o'clock on your plate.

Any unused silverware is simply left on the table.

Roasted Pork Loin and Vegetables

This is a very simple yet delicious and nutritious meal. Sis just cooked this morning as our breakfast after morning mass. What I like about this dish is already complete. I don't need to prepare anything else because it already has meat and vegetables.

Ingredients:
Boneless pork loin
garlic salt
pepper
dried parsley
dried thyme
potatoes
carrots
olive oil

Directions:

* Season pork loin with garlic salt, pepper, dried thyme and sizzle with olive oil.
* Put in a roasting pan and baked for 45 minutes at 350F
* While roasting the pork loin, bring the carrots and potatoes to boil until half cook.
* Drain. Season with garlic salt, pepper, dried parsley and sizzle with olive oil.
* Add the seasoned vegetables to the pork loin. Bake until veggies and pork loin is done.
* Serve

Holiday faves

Wow it is Christmas already! It seems so surreal! I feel like the days pass by so quick.

Anyway, this is my favorite holiday movies:

1. A Christmas Story. Ralphie, a young boy growing up in the '40's, dreams of owning a Red Rider BB gun. He sets out to convince the world this is the perfect gift. But along the way, he runs into opposition from his parents, his teacher, and even good 'ol Santa Claus himself.

2. It's a Wonderful Life. George Bailey spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, Bedford Falls, as we see in flashback. But in the present, on Christmas Eve, he is broken and suicidal over the misplacing of an $8000 loan and the machinations of the evil millionaire, Mr. Potter. His guardian angel, Clarence, falls to Earth, literally, and shows him how his town, family, and friends would turn out if he had never been born. George meant so much to so many people; should he really throw it all away?

3. Christmas with the Kranks. Based on John Grisham's novel Skipping Christmas, Christmas With the Kranks revolves around Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Luther Krank's (Tim Allen) decision to put their normally fanatical enthusiasm for the holidays aside for a tropical cruise. With their daughter in Peru with the Peace Corps, the Kranks believe it just isn't worth it; thus, no presents, Christmas trees, or decorations of any kind will adorn their house to the great consternation of their neighbor Vic (Dan Aykroyd). Just as it looks like Christmas will be successfully skipped, Blair (Julie Gonzalo) throws a major kink into her plans when she suddenly has a change of heart and announces she'll be coming home for Christmas after all.

These are few of the movies which is set during holidays which I love watching:

Die Hard. It's Christmas time in L.A., and there's an employee party in progress on the 30th floor of the Nakatomi Corporation building. The revelry comes to a violent end when the partygoers are taken hostage by a group of terrorists headed by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), who plan to steal the 600 million dollars locked in Nakatomi's high-tech safe. In truth, Gruber and his henchmen are only pretending to be politically motivated to throw the authorities off track; also in truth, Gruber has no intention of allowing anyone to get out of the building alive. Meanwhile, New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) has come to L.A. to visit his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), who happens to be one of the hostages.

Home Alone. Home Alone is the highly successful and beloved family comedy about a young boy named Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) who is accidentally left behind when his family takes off for a vacation in France over the holiday season. Once he realizes they've left him "home alone," he learns to fend for himself and, eventually has to protect his house against two bumbling burglars (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) who are planning to rob every house in Kevin's suburban Chicago neighborhood.

Christmas Holiday Craft

How would you like to try a simple and easy to
make centerpiece this Christmas? Make a tasty felt lollipop by
sandwiching a poster-board circle between
two decorated felt circles and then sewing them together with a blanket
stitch. Cut a length of dowel for a stick and insert it in the bottom
of the ...lollipop. Hot-glue a ribbon bow to the dowel and display in a
small vase filled with tiny marshmallows.

Great Food For The Brain

I am in the mood of reading news online today. From my reading i found out very good fact about super food for the brain. This is very helpful. take time to read.

-0-Best Food for Children and Teens-0-
School kids must start their day with low-glycemic-index breakfast foods.
Food solutions: Bran cereals, oatmeal or whole-wheat bagels.

-0-Best Brain Food for Young Adults-0-
As the survey says the 10% of us women are aneminc? Are you? And new studies show that being even mildly iron-deficient affects learning, memory, and attention. Luckily, restoring iron levels to normal also restores cognitive function.
Food solutions: Dark leafy greens, beans, meat or soy.

-0-Best Brain Food for Older Adults-0-
As i read older adults must eat your antioxidants. People who eat more brightly colored fruits and leafy vegetables have less cognitive decline than those who don't; antioxidants in produce may mop up free radicals and protect neurons from damage.
Food solutions: Berries and other fruits, greens and turmeric (which contains curcumin).

Hope this will give us more clear proper food for our brain.

My Sister's Keeper

My Sister's keeper, we watched The Sister's Keeper. A movie that made me cry like 75% of the time when I was watching it.

The
Sister's Keeper is a movie about Anna - an 11 year old girl, conceived
through Invitro-fertilization. She was purposely conceived to be a
donor to her leukemia-stricken sister Kate.

Anna Fitzgerald
s...eeks the successful lawyer Campbell Alexander trying to hire him to
earn medical emancipation from her mother Sara that wants Anna to
donate her kidney to her sister. She tells the lawyer the story of her
family after the discovery that her older sister Kate has had leukemia;
how she was conceived by in vitro fertilization to become a donor; and
the medical procedures she has been submitted since she was five years
old to donate to her sister.

This movie made me cry some more
because 2 years ago, we almost lost Joy (our inspiration in life) and she suffered from
many complications... she went through dialysis too. I just can picture
out the pain the family suffer. The things a mother can and will do
just to prolong the life of her sick child. Everything in the movie is
very realistic... from pain ... to suffering ... from holding on to
family... to finally giving up and letting go...

It is sad but it shows some facts of life....

Wednesday Quote

"Never get tired of doing little things for others... Sometimes those little things occupy biggest part of their hearts." A very nice quote that counts! right?
